Flying Forest transforms low-value forestry residues into high-value Green Fuels to power the global transition to net-zero.

We use proven technology to transform forestry waste into ultra-low-carbon Green Methanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) sold as ‘drop in’ fuels for the rapidly expanding aviation and shipping markets.

We gasify wood waste to syngas, turn it into methanol, before upgrading it to a drop-in jet fuel.

The Challenge We Solve

Hard-to-abate sectors like shipping and aviation together emit 5% of global CO₂ but have virtually no ready supply of low-carbon drop-in fuels. Flying Forest bridges the gap between climate targets and fuel availability.

Today’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel supply covers less than 0.1% of aviation demand, and marine fuels still rely almost entirely on oil.

Scalable Proven Technology

Flying Forest’s modular biorefinery model converts forestry waste into green methanol and, through a Methanol-to-Jet (MTJ) process, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The process integrates biomass gasification, syngas-to-methanol conversion, and jet fuel synthesis through a pathway under active certification.

Forestry waste biomass is rich in carbon and hydrogen, ideal for creating e-fuels. A stable supply of high quality feedstock drives efficiency, lowering costs and maximises yields.

Regulatory Tailwinds

The demand for sustainable aviation solutions has never been greater. For a world that can no longer wait, Flying Forest delivers a powerful environmental solution for the marine and aviation industry helping cut carbon emissions by over 90%

The EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) requires airlines to buy CO₂ emission allowances. The EU's enhanced framework and the Fit for 55 Initiative mandate increasing SAF use, starting at 5% and aiming for 63% by 2050.

Jet Zero Strategy & Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) mandates the use of SAF in the UK with a buyout price at £4.70/ltr, indicative of the global SAF market dynamics regulatory influences, and supply-demand imbalances.

CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation) led by ICAO, caps international aviation emissions at 2020 levels. Airlines must purchase carbon offsets for emissions and use cleaner fuels like SAF.

The IMO has committed to net-zero emissions by 2050, with a 20–30% cut by 2030. Methanol has emerged as the leading alternative to heavy fuel oil, thanks to its engine compatibility and lower infrastructure needs.

Finland has ambitious targets to integrate sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with a blending mandate starting in 2025 at 2% SAF and is designed to increase to 30% by 2030, requiring fuel producers to incorporate renewable fuels into aviation fuel.
